Lindsay + Matt’s Wedding- Pavilion at Pepper Plantation

We had the absolute pleasure of photographing Lindsay and Matt’s Wedding at the Pavilion at Pepper Plantation.  Between the perfect fall weather, the lovely bride and groom, and a fun and engaging group of guests, this turned out to be one of our most favorite weddings to shoot. The Pavilion at The Pepper Plantation is a fabulous wedding venue location in Charleston, SC! It is actually located just outside of Charleston in Awendaw, SC, just about a 25 minute drive from Downtown. Pepper Pavilion is located on the beautiful grounds of Pepper Plantation. Lindsay and her bridesmaids got their makeup and hair done at the Cottage at Pepper Plantation. The Cottage is just a short walk away from the Pavilion, […]

Engagement Photos on a Family Farm in Walterboro, SC| Southern Tide Photography

As a Charleston Wedding Photographer, I have shot a lot of Engagement Shoots. A LOT. More then I could ever dream of counting. I have a lot of clients who ask for suggestions on where to have their Engagement Session, and I am more then happy to suggest some of my favorite places. But the thing I always tell a couple first, is that the location should have some type of meaning for them. Even if they are not from Charleston, you can still pick a location that represents you as a couple. For example, if the couple loves the water and enjoys doing activities on the water together, I would suggest a shoot at one of  Charleston’s local marinas […]

A Charleston Wedding-Stony Landing Plantation- Jocelyn & Donny

One of the most romantic cities in the world is Charleston, SC. Charleston is also one the best cities to get married because there are so many gorgeous venue locations to choose from. A little off the beaten path in the Charleston suburb of Moncks Corner, there is amazing wedding venue called Old Santee Canal Park that is home to Stony Landing Plantation. The plantation house sits on a beautiful hill overlooking Biggin Creek, where the west branch of the Cooper River begins. The grounds are covered in mossy oaks and beautiful flowers, it is just the perfect backdrop for a Charleston Wedding! This was the venue for Jocelyn and Donny’s springtime wedding. Jocelyn and Donny are one of my favorite couples. […]

Bridal Portraits at Boone Hall Plantation…A Southern Fairytale

I LOVE shooting Bridal Portraits. LOVE. They are definitely more of a “southern tradition” and I find a lot of my northern brides have never even heard of Bridal Portraits, or “Bridals” as those in the industry call them. Being that bridal portraits are a long-standing tradition among Southern brides, they often are taken at locations that portray southern history and charm. And what says “southern charm” more than Boone Hall Plantation??!! I shot Jocelyn’s bridal portraits this past spring at Boone Hall Plantation. Jocelyn was planning on  having photos from her bridal portraits on display at her Wedding Reception. She also wanted to use her portraits as an opportunity to “test run” her hair and makeup, which is something I always suggest brides […]

Engagement Shoot Tips

When preparing for photo shoots, I always prepare ahead of time for the shoot by scoping out the chosen location, seeing what time of day provides the most flattering light at that location, get my equipment ready, organize any props I will be using, etc. The MOST IMPORTANT thing I do to prepare for a photo shoot is I prepare my clients for their shoot. This is especially true with Engagement Sessions. Engagement shoots have become increasingly popular over the past several years and most newly engaged couples are booking engagement sessions as soon as they get engaged. Engagement shoots are great because they can help you determine what wedding photographer to use, they can help you and your photographer […]

My Favorite Part of Weddings: First Looks

Right before Christmas I got to shoot a wedding that allowed me to take some of my favorite types of photos…First Look Photos! I have much love for “First Looks” and I love to talk about them and share why they are so awesome. A first look is a moment staged and set up by a wedding photographer for the bride and groom to see each other before the ceremony. It is usually at a spot at the location of your ceremony. The groom would be looking while the bride starts walking down towards him. She will tap his shoulder, and he will turn around and see his beautiful bride for the first time. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE First Looks […]

Mission Impossible: Photographing Kids

Okay. So photographing kids is hard sometimes. It just is. Kids, of any age but especially the younger ones, have plans of their own when it comes to the day of their photo shoot. That is why I haven’t done many photo shoots with my own daughter. When people hear I’m a photographer and I shoot a lot of children sessions, they always say how great it must be to be able to take great photos of my own daughter whenever I want, and for free! I always just laugh because it is the complete opposite actually. My own little girl has always had a mind of her own and whatever I want her to do, she wants to do […]
