I LOVE shooting Bridal Portraits. LOVE. They are definitely more of a “southern tradition” and I find a lot of my northern brides have never even heard of Bridal Portraits, or “Bridals” as those in the industry call them.
Being that bridal portraits are a long-standing tradition among Southern brides, they often are taken at locations that portray southern history and charm. And what says “southern charm” more than Boone Hall Plantation??!!
I shot Jocelyn’s bridal portraits this past spring at Boone Hall Plantation. Jocelyn was planning on having photos from her bridal portraits on display at her Wedding Reception. She also wanted to use her portraits as an opportunity to “test run” her hair and makeup, which is something I always suggest brides consider when booking their bridal session. I absolutely loved how Jocelyn’s bridal photos turned out and they made me fall in love with Boone Hall Plantation even more.
Jocelyn was getting married at Stony Landing Plantation at Old Santee Canal Park, so we knew we wanted to have the old rustic, plantation vibe come out in her pictures. I knew photos in the cotton field would be a perfect place to start, and these ended up being some of my favorite photos.
And the beautiful entrance iron gates…
The oak trees at Boone Hall are infamous… they have been seen in a number of movies, books, and magazines. A bride in her dress with the oaks in the backdrop is everything a Southern bridal portrait session should be!
Boone Hall Plantation also has beautiful barns on site, water views, and gardens. Here are some of my favorite photos from Jocelyn’s Bridals using those backgrounds.
